Job Title: Family Service Counselor
Pay Range $50 – $125K Annually (Commission)
Location: Mill Valley, CA
Job Summary:
We are seeking a passionate and service-oriented Family Service Counselor to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is committed to delivering exceptional client service, maintains a positive “can-do” attitude, and is dedicated to guiding families through sensitive and important decisions related to funeral and cemetery services. As a Family Service Counselor, you will assist clients in both at-need and before-need arrangements, ensuring that their needs are met with the highest level of care and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
- Communication with Manager: Collaborate with the Manager to establish daily and weekly service and operational needs, ensuring smooth and timely execution of all tasks and services.
- At-Need Funeral and Cemetery Arrangements: Serve as the primary point of contact for at-need funeral and cemetery arrangements, including participation in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support as needed.
- Before-Need Cemetery Arrangements: Manage and facilitate before-need cemetery arrangements, assisting families in planning for the future and providing guidance on available options.
- Direct Funeral and Memorial Services: Direct funeral and memorial services, ensuring they are conducted with the utmost professionalism, respect, and in alignment with the family’s wishes.
- MIS / CAFÉ & PlotBox Inventory Mapping: Demonstrate basic fluency with MIS, CAFÉ, and PlotBox inventory mapping to accurately track inventory and service details.
- Assistance with Preparation of Decedents: Assist with the respectful preparation of decedents in accordance with established procedures and standards.
- Before-Need Funeral Insurance Sales: Prior experience or willingness to engage in before-need funeral insurance sales to assist families in making future planning decisions is a plus.
- Crematory Operation Experience: Experience in crematory operations is a plus, providing the ability to oversee cremation services and respond to related inquiries.
- Client Relationship Management: Build strong, long-lasting relationships with families, ensuring their needs are met with empathy and professionalism throughout the arrangement process.
- Problem Solving & Coordination: Resolve client concerns and issues as they arise, working with internal teams to ensure all services are delivered smoothly and in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Prior experience in funeral services, cemetery operations, or a related field is preferred.
Proven ability to provide excellent client service with a compassionate, positive, and professional attitude.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to guide families through sensitive decisions.
Basic fluency with MIS, CAFÉ, and PlotBox inventory systems.
Experience in before-need funeral insurance sales and/or crematory operations is a plus.
A “can-do” attitude and the ability to remain calm under pressure in challenging situations.
Detail-oriented with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
Availability to participate in on-call rotation as needed.
